January 5, 2012: Bekkum Family Farms Announces Shredded Cheese Recall, Reaction To Green Cedar Dairy’s Recall

On January 3, 2012, Bekkum Family Farms announced that the recall of the shredded cheese, "Grumpy Goat Shreds", because of a potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.  The shredded cheese was recalled because it had been shredded on the same equipment used for shredding another brand of cheese that tested positive for the foodborne pathogen, Listeria monocytogenes. This is the second recall that has been announced for this reason. 
 

The cheese that tested positive for Listeria is Green Cedar Dairy’s All Natural Ackawi and Chive Cheeses from Michigan.  So far, there have been two reported illnesses from the contaminated cheese. 

The recalled Grumpy Goats Shreds cheese is marketed by the Nordic Creamery, is packaged in 8 oz bags, and has a code date of March 10, 2012.  The recalled shredded cheese was sold in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and California starting November 11, 2011.
