Listeria Monocytogenes is an organism which can potentially cause serious and sometimes fatal illness (listeriosis) in young children, frail or elderly people, and the immunocompromised.
While individuals in good health may suffer from short term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, the possibility exists that pregnant women are at risk of miscarriages and stillbirths if an infection occurs.
