August 17, 2011: Kimchi Involved in Recall

The Korean food, Kimchi, is being highlighted for its potential to contain Listeria monocytogenes

Atlanta Oriental Food Wholesale Company of Atlanta, GA, sells Cut Napa Kimchi in a 1 gallon clear plastic container and a 5 gallon bucket.  The Lot # located on the outside of the 5 gallon container is 56090959.

The spicy fermented cabbage was distributed at Buford Highway Farmers Market in Doraville, Georgia.  It was also sent in 5 gallon containers to businesses in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.

This finding came about after testing of the 1 gallon containers was completed and it was discovered that the Listeria was present.  At the present time, the situation is being scrutinized as to the source of the contamination and production has stopped.
