December 20, 2019: Almark Foods Issues Egg Recall Amid Concerns Of Listeria Contamination

Almark Foods Egg Recall Announcement – Almark Foods is recalling its Hard-Boiled and Peeled Eggs in white plastic pails with white plastic lids, because the products may be contaminated with the foodborne pathogen, Listeria monocytogenes (Listeria).

About Listeria

Listeria is a type of bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, a Listeria infection (listeriosis) can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

On December 18, 2019, the company was notified by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that Almark Foods’ Hard-Boiled and Peeled Eggs in pails produced at its Gainesville, Georgia facility may be linked to a Listeria food poisoning outbreak.  As a result, Almark issued an egg recall for its Hard-Cooked and Peeled Eggs in pails that were produced at its Gainesville, GA plant that remain within expiry.  Almark Foods stated that it “has suspended production of the recalled egg products in pails at its Gainesville facility to further investigate the issue.”
