Haifa Smoked Fish, Inc., Jamaica, NY is voluntarily recalling products due to the possible contamination with Listeria Monocytongenes.
Cold Smoked Whitefish was sold between December 7, 2008 and June 18, 2009 and had labeling bearing the UPC number 832007000263. The recalled product was distributed to retailers and distributors in the New York State area. Consumers could possibly have purchased the product through retail stores outside the New York State area.
The bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, can cause a fatal infection known as listeriosis. Those at risk for complications due to listeriosis are the elderly, immunocompromised, infants, and pregnant women and their fetuses.
