May 17, 2011: Chives Recalled Due To Listeria Concerns

Listeria Chive Recall Announcement – The Food and Drug Administration has announced that chives, sold by Goodness Gardens Inc., of New Hampton, NY, have the potential to be contaminated with the bacterium Listeria. As a result, Goodness Gardens has issued a recall for a specific lot of the product.

Listeria is a bacterium that can cause a serious and potentially fatal infection in young children, the elderly, and the immunocompromised.  Infection with Listeria can lead to miscarriage and stillbirth in pregnant women.  See Listeria Symptoms to learn more about Listeria infection and its complications.
