Roos Foods Outbreak – Final Report
On April 18, 2014, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued its final update report for a Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning outbreak linked to Roos Foods dairy products. Roos Foods issued multiple recalls for their products as a result of the outbreak.
According to the CDC, a total of eight persons were infected with the Roos Foods outbreak strain of Listeria across two states as follows: California (1) and Maryland (7). The outbreak resulted in seven hospitalizations, and one death. Pregnant women and their unborn fetuses or newborns are most susceptible to Listeria infection, and true to the nature of this disease, five of the illnesses (2 mother-newborn pairs and a newborn) were among those sickened.
